The Kentucky Derby The Kentucky Derby has taken place annually in Louis-ville, Kentucky since 1875. It was started by Meriwether Lewis Clark, Jr. At his track he called Churchill Downs, and it has run continuously since that first race. This first jewel of the Triple Crown has produced famous winners. The Queen of England attended the Kentucky Derby in 2007, the 133rd running of the Kentucky Derby at Churchill Downs. She traveled with her husband, Prince Philip. Kentucky Derby Museum has a replica of this hat on display in our fashion exhibit. With over 1,000 tvs, access to wagering, great food, Maker’s Mark drink specials and live music at the Bud Light Stage in the Paddock, Keeneland is the perfect place to watch the Run for the Roses. Gates open at 10 a.m. And parking is free. Due to Covid protocols, all tickets must be purchase in advance.
